In 1832, F.B. Morse invented the telegraph.
In 1844 he successfully demonstrated its use when
he transmitted over a wire from
Washington
to Baltimore
the message:
“WHAT GOD HATH
WROUGHT”. The communication of information was about
to take off like never before.
We continue to
keep you abreast with events making news around the
E.L.C.G. The following
News Capsules can be described as SEEN IN

(1).
E.L.C.G. GETS A NEW P.O BOX:
The new Post Office Box number for all
correspondence directed to the
E.L.C.G. Office
in New
Amsterdam
is P.O
Box 40. This is now
necessary because the former Box 88 was shared between the E.L.C.G. and
Transfiguration Parish.
Please direct
all official correspondence to the E.L.C.G as follows:

E.L.C.G SECRETARY FOR WORLD MISSION WEEK IN
TULSA, OKLAHOMA:
The Secretary of the E.L.C.G., Ms.
Sandra Kurtzious, will represent the Church in September
at Fellowship Lutheran
Church in Tulsa,
Oklahoma
for their WORLD MISSION WEEK. Her visit is part of the
on-going ties of partnership between the E.L.C.G and the
F.L.C.
While there, Ms. Sandra Kurtzious will speak at
many forums on the life of the Church in the Guyana context.
We wish
her a happy journey!!!

AREA SECRETARY, GLOBAL MISSION – E.L.C.A DUE IN
SEPTEMBER:
The Rev.
Raquel Rodriguez of Global Mission
- E.L.C.A. with responsibilities from Guyana will arrive in September
18th – 22nd, 2008 for a
visit with the Executive Council of the E.L.C.G.
This meeting will be mutually beneficial as the
Church address the current difficulties it faces and as
it clarifies the relationship between the E.L.C.G. and
the E.L.C.A.

TEAM TO VISIT REFORMATION PARISH:
A Team of four (4) persons from the Executive Council
will make a trip to the Reformation Parish in early
September for the purpose of meeting with the Parish
Council.
The purpose of the visit is to put in place alternative
arrangements for continual Pastoral Ministry since
Pastor Leroy Nicholson has answered a Call to the Advent
Parish.
Also, on the Sunday of the visit, each of the four (4)
members will be in a congregation for Worship and to
meet with the members of the Church.
(5).
31st ANNUAL COMBINED SERVICE HELD IN ST.
ANDREW PARISH:
In 1977 the
late Pastor Samuel Pillay introduced the first combined
Service in St Andrew Parish for the members of the three
(3) congregations that make up the Parish.
Thirty (30)
years later, this annual combined service is alive and
well and remains a big event in the month of August.
On 3rd
August 2008, the 31st Annual Service was
celebrated under the Theme “UNITY IN DIVERSITY”.
The Guest Preacher was Pastor Errol
Inshanally.
For the members of St Andrew Parish, the day did not
disappoint.
A great lunch followed the service.
In the afternoon a concert was held and this was
chaired by Executive Council Member – Mr. Samuel
Goolsarran.

BIG ATTENDANCE MARKS LEADERSHIP SEMINAR:
Some forty
three (43) persons showed up for a one-day
Seminar billed as a conversation with Dr. Winston
Persaud at the Lutheran Lay Academy Hall in
New Amsterdam on Monday 4th
August, 2008.
Using a paper entitled “LUTHERAN IDENTITY”;
the day’s proceedings sparked a lively discussion and
caused quite a stir.
It is anticipated that many more seminars will be
planned in the future when Dr. Winston Persaud visits
the E.L.C.G.
It is good to note that participants were
drawn almost every Parish in the E.L.C.G.

INSTALLATION OF PASTOR DIANA LIVERPOOL AT
BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH:
The
Installation of Pastor Diana Liverpool was a delightful
event on Sunday, August 10th 2008 at Bethel Lutheran
Church in the
Transfiguration Parish.
By the request of Transfiguration Parish Council,
the Rev. Roy Thakurdyal preached his farewell sermon for
the occasion as he passed the baton over to Pastor Diana
Liverpool.
His service was
punctuated by bitter-sweet moments as the Parish seized
the opportunity to bid another farewell to Pastor Roy
and Alice Thakurdyal and to welcome their new Pastor
Diana Liverpool

EBENEZER YOUTHS SHOW UP AT ST. JOHN SOUP
KITCHEN:
Through the
kindness of Wartburg Theological Seminary Student Linda
Heppker, Ebenezer Youths under the
supervision of Ms. Norma King were able to visit
the St. John Soup Kitchen on Friday 15th
August, 2008.
For the day,
some ten (10) youths including Royan Goddett took part
in the preparation of the lunch and helped to serve the
food. About one hundred (100) persons ate that
day in the Alfred Bourham Memorial Hall.
After the lunch, the youths also assisted in
washing up the dishes.
Well done Ebenezer Youths!!!!!
