SUBJECT:  NEWS CAPSULES III FROM THE E.L.C.G.

Dear Co- Workers,

IN NOMINE JESU!!!

In 1832, F.B. Morse invented the telegraph.  In 1844 he successfully demonstrated its use when he transmitted over a wire from Washington to Baltimore the message:   “WHAT GOD HATH WROUGHT”. The communication of information was about to take off like never before.

We continue to keep you abreast with events making news around the E.L.C.G. The following  News Capsules can be described as SEEN IN PASSING:

 (1).      E.L.C.G. GETS A NEW P.O BOX:

The new Post Office Box number for all correspondence directed to the E.L.C.G. Office in New Amsterdam is P.O Box 40. This is now necessary because the former Box 88 was shared between the E.L.C.G. and Transfiguration Parish.

Please direct all official correspondence to the E.L.C.G as follows:

Pastor Errol Inshanally

President of the E.L.C.G.

Lutheran Courts

P.O Box 40.

New Amsterdam

Berbice, Guyana.

(2).       E.L.C.G SECRETARY FOR WORLD MISSION WEEK IN TULSA, OKLAHOMA:

The Secretary of the E.L.C.G., Ms. Sandra Kurtzious, will represent the Church in September at Fellowship Lutheran Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma for their WORLD MISSION WEEK. Her visit is part of the on-going ties of partnership between the E.L.C.G and the F.L.C.  While there, Ms. Sandra Kurtzious will speak at many forums on the life of the Church in the Guyana context.  We wish her a happy journey!!!

(3).       AREA SECRETARY, GLOBAL MISSION – E.L.C.A DUE IN SEPTEMBER:

The Rev. Raquel Rodriguez of Global Mission - E.L.C.A. with responsibilities from Guyana will arrive in September 18th – 22nd, 2008 for a visit with the Executive Council of the E.L.C.G.  This meeting will be mutually beneficial as the Church address the current difficulties it faces and as it clarifies the relationship between the E.L.C.G. and the E.L.C.A.

(4).       TEAM TO VISIT REFORMATION PARISH:

A Team of four (4) persons from the Executive Council will make a trip to the Reformation Parish in early September for the purpose of meeting with the Parish Council.  The purpose of the visit is to put in place alternative arrangements for continual Pastoral Ministry since Pastor Leroy Nicholson has answered a Call to the Advent Parish.  Also, on the Sunday of the visit, each of the four (4) members will be in a congregation for Worship and to meet with the members of the Church.

(5).       31st ANNUAL COMBINED SERVICE HELD IN ST. ANDREW PARISH:

In 1977 the late Pastor Samuel Pillay introduced the first combined Service in St Andrew Parish for the members of the three (3) congregations that make up the Parish.

Thirty (30) years later, this annual combined service is alive and well and remains a big event in the month of August.

On 3rd August 2008, the 31st Annual Service was celebrated under the Theme “UNITY IN DIVERSITY”.  The Guest Preacher was Pastor Errol Inshanally.  For the members of St Andrew Parish, the day did not disappoint.  A great lunch followed the service.  In the afternoon a concert was held and this was chaired by Executive Council Member – Mr. Samuel Goolsarran.

(6).       BIG ATTENDANCE MARKS LEADERSHIP SEMINAR:

Some forty three (43) persons showed up for a one-day Seminar billed as a conversation with Dr. Winston Persaud at the Lutheran Lay Academy Hall in New Amsterdam on Monday 4th August, 2008.  Using a paper entitled “LUTHERAN IDENTITY”; the day’s proceedings sparked a lively discussion and caused quite a stir.  It is anticipated that many more seminars will be planned in the future when Dr. Winston Persaud visits the E.L.C.G.  It is good to note that participants were drawn almost every Parish in the E.L.C.G.

(7).       INSTALLATION OF PASTOR DIANA LIVERPOOL AT BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH:

The Installation of Pastor Diana Liverpool was a delightful event on Sunday, August 10th 2008 at Bethel Lutheran Church in the Transfiguration Parish.  By the request of Transfiguration Parish Council, the Rev. Roy Thakurdyal preached his farewell sermon for the occasion as he passed the baton over to Pastor Diana Liverpool.

His service was punctuated by bitter-sweet moments as the Parish seized the opportunity to bid another farewell to Pastor Roy and Alice Thakurdyal and to welcome their new Pastor Diana Liverpool

(8).       EBENEZER YOUTHS SHOW UP AT ST. JOHN SOUP KITCHEN:

Through the kindness of Wartburg Theological Seminary Student Linda Heppker, Ebenezer Youths under the supervision of Ms. Norma King were able to visit the St. John Soup Kitchen on Friday 15th August, 2008.

For the day, some ten (10) youths including Royan Goddett took part in the preparation of the lunch and helped to serve the food. About one hundred (100) persons ate that day in the Alfred Bourham Memorial Hall.  After the lunch, the youths also assisted in washing up the dishes.

Well done Ebenezer Youths!!!!!

SOLI DEO GLORIA!!!!!
