TO: ALL PASTORS, PARISH AND CHURCH COUNCILS OF THE E.L.C.G

FROM:  PASTOR ERROL INSHANALLY – PRESIDENT OF THE E.L.C.G.

SUBJECT:  NEWS CAPSULE II FROM THE E.L.C.G.

 Dear Co- Workers,

 IN NOMINE JESU!!!

We are happy that this format of News Capsule is providing a link around the Parishes and through it we can see the Church in microcosm at various forms of Ministry. We thank you for your kind remarks to see it coming regularly.

At this time, we are saddened to learn that fire destroyed the LAW FIRM of Attorney-at-law SANDRA KURTZIOUS who is the Secretary of the E.L.C.G.

We express our concerns and pledge our prayers for her and her family at the grave losses incurred and trust that from the ashes the Kurtzious Family will see God’s strong hands pointing the way ahead.

We share with you a few EVENTS going on at this time around the E.L.C.G:

(1).       TRANSFIGURATION PARISH BIDS FAREWELL TO THE THAKURDYALS.

On Sunday, July 13th hundreds attended a Thanksgiving Service at Bethel Lutheran Church as Transfiguration Parish paid tributes to Pastor Roy and Alice Thakurdyal!!!

After a score of years, the curtain was lowered on the Ministry of Pastor Roy and Alice to Transfiguration Parish as they prepare to leave Guyana.

Pastor Judy Mc Guire brought the Sermon for the occasion.  The Executive Council represented by the Secretary – Ms. Sandra Kurtzious and Committee Members – Mr. Samuel Goolsarran and Mr. Dyanand Mohandatt.

The entire E.L.C.G has been ennobled by the indefatigable labours of Pastor Roy and Alice Thakurdyal and we wish them well on new beginnings in Ministry!!!

(2).       PASTOR JUDY MC GUIRE ON HOME ASSIGNMENT:

Pastor Judy Mc Guire, the Director of the Christian Education Department and the Pastor (ag) of St Michael Parish has returned home to do a three (3) months assignment across the E.L.C.A.  During this time, she will be traveling across the country to meet various Congregations and she will also be giving various addresses on her work in Guyana.  She will return to the E.L.C.G. on the 21st October 2008.  We wish Pastor Judy safe traveling in all her work abroad!!!

(3).       MINISTERIAL STUDENT TO BE ORDAINED

The Ordination date for MS. DIANA LIVERPOOL has been set for Sunday 27th July, 2008 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m.

This comes as a result of the Executive Council having a meeting with Ms. Liverpool and is pleased with her readiness for the Holy Ministry of Word and Sacrament.  The entire Church is invited to share in the joy of welcoming our newest Pastor!!!

At the Service, the Rev. Dr. Winston Persaud – Professor of Systemic Theology at Wartburg Theological Seminary will be the Guest Preacher.  Interestingly Pastor Persaud baptized Diana Liverpool in 1982 or 1983 at Hope Lutheran Church.

T
ransfiguration Parish has extended a Parish Call to Ms. Diana Liverpool and she has accepted that Call.  Her Installation will be held on August 10th, 2008 at 1:00 p.m in the Transfiguration Parish at Bethel Lutheran Church, Sheet Anchor Village, Berbice.

(4).       OKLAHOMA YOUTHS ARRIVE AT ASCENSION PARISH

Some seventeen (17) Youths from Fellowship Lutheran Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma are presently in Guyana as guests of the Ascension Lutheran Parish.  As part of the summer,  these Youth Mission Team is crossing borders for Christ and building bridges of friendship and understanding in teaching the Vacation Bible School in the Ascension Parish this year.

We wish them well and hope that they get to see various places of local interest to understand Guyana better before they depart for home.

(5).       48 NOT OUT!! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

The women of Calvary Lutheran Parish have a lot to be proud about.  Their E.L.C.W observed its 48th Anniversary at a special service on Sunday July 3rd at 2:00 p.m.  We are happy to learn that a large gathering turned up for the occasion and gifts were made to long-standing members for their years of outstanding service including Ms. Cecilia Bose.

Also the Redeemer E.L.C.W. is now set to observe their 48th anniversary as well.

Well done ladies at  Calvary and Redeemer Parishes!!!!

(6).      ANNUAL CARICOM DAY RALLY (JULY 7th 2008) ST. JAMES

Caricom Day Rally this year caused a big splash on the Corentyne.  This was because the fifty-two women who had gathered for what is now an annual feature of the Berbice District around their theme: “WOMEN, SERVING WITH GLADNESS” couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful their host Church – St James was!!  Only a week before the entirely rebuilt structure was dedicated to the Glory of God and when the Rally was kept there – it was the first major meeting of the host Church since the dedication.  We suspect the ladies will find excuse for returning next year.

(7).       ANNUAL YOUTH CAMP HELD IN JULY, 2008

The National Youth Commission deserves full praise against great odds to spearhead two Youth Camps for some one hundred and fifty (150) Youths at the Camp and Retreat Centre in Skeldon, Corentyne.  The Camps were held amidst escalating costs but the National Youth Commission worked energetically to ensure that no camper was denied the opportunity to go off to Camp because of finance.

A word of appreciation is extended to the Rev. Dr. Winston Persaud who conducted Bible Studies on the Camp Theme for the senior campers!!

(8).       ST. STEPHEN CONGREGATION TO BE REOPENED

A hard working group of Concerned Lutherans, headed by Mr. Mohandatt of Ebenezer Parish and Mr. Bactawer of St Andrew Parish is pleased to announce that the doors of St. Stephen Congregation will be reopened for Worship on Sunday August 31st, 2008 at 1:00 p.m.

St. Stephen Congregation at Bush Lot Farm is situated in the St Michael Parish on the Corentyne about twenty five (25) miles from New Amsterdam.  Two years ago, as the congregation dwindled to two (2) remaining families, since the others had migrated abroad, the Parish took a decision to close the congregation with the remaining members worshipping in the nearby congregations of St Luke at Philippi.

However, some concerned Lutherans rose to the challenge of doing some needed restoration and have since gone out into the community to spread the news of the re- opening of St. Stephen.  The response is fantastic and the people are waiting eagerly to raise the ALLELUIA again!!!!

(9).       MUSIC TEACHER -VICKY SALMON SCORES A HAT TRICK…..

Under the auspices of Fellowship Lutheran Church in TULSA, OKLAHOMA, Music Education continues to be a major program in various Parishes of the E.L.C.G.  For this summer, VICKY SALMON has returned for the third (3rd)  time to strengthen the musical skills of our youths in St. Andrew, St. Matthew and Ascension Parishes in the Demerara Region.  Vicky gives lessons in guitar and keyboard training and also trains folks in singing.

We are pleased that Vicky is here and that her students are having great fun learning and improving their talents.

SOLI DEO GLORIA!!!
